Planning Is Used For Winning Boxing

Natural talent is one of the best assets in the world, but planning and talent are needed for winning boxing. If a person has skill, good timing, quick movements, and excellent balance they are well on the way, but they still must plan a training routine and follow up if they want to win.

winning boxing

Typical exercises such as sit ups, pushups, and other aerobic exercises are important to build strength and endurance. Running and jogging also help give the boxer the extra edge to be able to move in the ring during a long fight and not become tired easily. Working out with exercise bags and exercise dummies helps with the timing of the moves and helps the boxer learn where to properly land the punches for the best effect. As crazy as it might sound learning ballroom dancing or other dance techniques helps a boxer learn balance and to anticipate the moves of their partner (and later their opponent). Any tip in body language that can be picked up from an opponent helps the boxer evade their punches and be able to quickly deliver their own. Sparring with a friendly opponent at first helps the boxer learn to anticipate the typical punch combinations, and continued sparring that becomes more difficult is needed to be prepared when entering the ring.

Just as with dance, martial arts, or any sport the beginning is a good stance. It will appear posed at first but as the body learns to start from the proper stance, it will become second nature and not be posed in appearance or action. From the beginning stance, balance is important, as well as protecting the face while being ready to land the first punch to the opponent. The punch combinations that are most common are often anticipated but, if combined correctly or even by adding one extra movement to throw the opponent off their timing, can be successful.

Such is true with the old 1-2 punch opening which is a left jab followed by a right cross. Much used, much anticipated to be used, but it can be classed up with a couple of additional opening jabs that the opponent may not be anticipating. If the jabs and right cross are executed quickly enough the boxer can proceed on to more complicated combinations in different order to keep the opponent off guard and land as many good punches as quickly as possible.

There are many rules and many body weights that are associated with boxing in order to keep opponents of equal size and skill levels together to make winning boxing one of the most exciting sports to watch.

Why Boxing Trunks Are Important

Boxing trunks serve multiple purposes for a boxer. For one thing, they make up about one half of a boxer’s apparel in the ring. In case you’re wondering, the rest is usually shoes. They can provide comfort, ease of movement and a personal touch to a boxer’s overall look. They can provide an extra measure of protection. Or they can cause a boxer to lose a fight. Because they take on different roles in the ring, boxing trunks are an important piece of a boxer’s uniform.

boxing trunks

A pair of boxing trunks that fit properly should be comfortable. If they are too tight or too loose, they can distract a boxer during a match. Additionally, if they’re worn too high, boxers can cause the athletic cup to press into the boxer’s groin, creating discomfort. In a shorter, more fitted pair of trunks, avoid anything that is too tight. The goal is to have a snug fit. If you opt for long, loose trunks, the crotch should not extend past the middle of your thigh. Regardless of the cut, the waistband should not be so loose that it moves around during a fight. If it continually needs to be adjusted, then it will create a distraction that you cannot afford.

The elastic waistband in boxing trunks was created by Everlast founder Jacob Golomb in 1925. Before the introduction of this more comfortable style, leather belts held boxing trunks in place. A bit of trivia about this particular historical event is that it sparked the invention of boxer shorts, which is how they got their name. It gave men a new kind of undergarment.

Boxers have long used boxing trunks to trick their opponents in the ring. If you’ve ever wondered why boxers tend to wear such high waisted trunks, the answer is simple. The higher a boxer pulls up his trunks, the smaller his torso appears to be. In doing so, he decreases the surface area that his opponent is allowed to hit. When used appropriately, it is an effective defensive tactic. You have to be careful not to take it too far, though. If a referee feels that your pants are too high, he will tell you to pull them down. Some boxers will pull them back up when the referee is not looking. This can be a bad idea. If the referee has to reprimand a boxer about the height of his trunks multiple times without success, he may allow the boxer’s opponent to begin striking below the belt. This is supposed to be illegal. However, when the waistband of the trunks is too high, the area below the belt may be fair game. Be mindful that boxing trunks can win or lose a match for you.

Easy Boxing Combinations

boxing combinations are an important part of learning to box and there are some easy boxing combinations to get you started. Many people often mistake boxing for simply hitting your opponent until they are knocked out. There is much more to this sport than that. Boxing requires skill, footwork, concentration and speed.

boxing combinations

When you are first learning to box, you will be learning a combination of footwork and punches. The footwork is a necessary skill which enables you to move swiftly out of the way of attack and to bring yourself into the offensive position. The punches, of course, are necessary to win the competition.

Boxing punches are named and numbered in order to easily memorize combinations. For example, the jab is known as the number one, the straight right is number two, the left hook is three, the right hook is four, the left uppercut is five and the right uppercut is six. The use of any of these punches in a combination will allow you to increase your skill and training techniques.

Some of the more basic combinations are the one-two-one and the one-one-one combinations. This means you are throwing a punch of jab, straight right, jab, and then a jab, jab, jab, combination. Combinations are used for keeping your opponent on their guard. If they do not know your boxing style very well, then they will have a difficult time blocking your combinations.

Also, it is not necessary to use a lot of footwork during combinations. Footwork can be reserved for single punches and being on the defensive. In face, when you use combinations, balance is the most important thing because you are using a combination of your left and right punches so your body will have to be able to switch balance instantly.

When you are training for boxing and learning combinations practice is very important. You need to learn which combinations work best for you and when to use them. Practicing your combinations also helps your balance. Keep trying out different combinations in order to get a feel of the ones you work best with.

Practicing your combinations also helps your footwork. By practicing your combinations, you are learning to shift your balance, keep your balance, and then focus your body movements and punches. Your boxing coach or trainer can help you with your punches and your footwork when you are learning easy boxing combinations.

Different Workout Gloves

There are many different boxing workout gloves for many different purposes. Workout gloves are an essential part of boxing. They support your hand and finger bones and assist in training, sparring, and delivering a good punch.

workout gloves

One of the many things to consider before choosing a workout glove is the size of the glove. Workout gloves come in many different sizes because people have different sized hands. If you choose a glove which is too loose, you will risk the glove falling of and you will not be as protected as you possibly can when boxing. A loose glove allows for slippage and if your glove is slipping off of your hand, it will be harder to throw a punch. Therefore, the delivery will be slow and with less force.

Also, if your workout boxing glove is too large, it could possibly endanger you. Your fragile hand bones could be at risk if your glove slides down too far. This would be a very bad thing indeed for a boxer. Therefore, it is very important your glove fits you properly.

Also the weight of the glove needs to be kept in mind. You should first base the weight of the glove on your own weight. If you are smaller in size, you will need a smaller punching glove than those who are larger in size. Generally speaking, if you are purchasing a sparring glove, your glove needs to be lighter in weight. The reason for this has more to do with physics. A lighter glove allows for a quicker punch and faster bounce back time. This allows you to deliver quicker punches, especially when using combination punches.

Also a lighter glove is good for a metabolic workout. If your intention is to lose fat and drop a few pound, then using a lighter glove will allow you to move more, make more punches, and thus burn more fat.

If you are aiming for strength training, use a heavier glove. Heavier gloves allow you to build the muscles in your arms. The extra weight build up more resistance, therefore giving your muscles a very good workout. This is a great boxing workout glove when you are using the punching dummies or heavy bags. Also, a heavy workout glove means you will not throw a punch so hard, an this gives to tactical advantage to your opponent. Try on different sizes and weights of different workout gloves before making your final purchasing decision.

Sewing Boxing Trunks

There is an easy way of sewing boxing trunks for yourself. Although there are places which sell boxing trunks or can have them special made for you, it is very simple to make boxing trunks for yourself at home. All you need is a few basic sewing skills.

boxing trunks

Often people want to design their own boxing shorts because they have particular colors in mind. When you are creating your own boxing trunks, first pick the material you want to use. It should be a light and silky material, such as silk or polyester, and you should have enough material to ensure your shorts can be sewn.

Now, you will need a tape measure and an elastic band as well. Use the tape measure to measure your waist for the elastic band. Make sure the band would fit comfortably snug around your waist. Then, cut the elastic giving it an extra two inches of room for sewing purposes.

Set the elastic aside and prepare your fabric. Decide which length you want your shorts and measure your leg from your waist to that point. If you want your shorts long, go a little below the knee. If you prefer your shorts short, then measure above the knee. Once you know your measurements, cut the fabric length giving it a two inch leeway for sewing.

You will also need to make a pattern. Use a large piece of paper or cardboard to draw a pair of shorts using the measurements you have for yourself, and then cut the fabric according to the pattern. Once the patter is cut, make sure to cut a second one so you have a front and a back to your boxing trunks.

Now, place the two fabric shorts pieces together and sew along the sides and the legs. Make sure not to close the waist or leg openings. Once the shorts are sewn, create an opening for the elastic and then sew the elastic into the shorts.

For your final touch, sew on the color stripe you want along the sides of your shorts and the hem of your shorts, if you like. Make sure the stripes are the same length and width on each side of your boxing shorts.

This will complete your shorts. Now, try them on and see of they fit. Make any necessary sewing adjustment to the shorts and then they are ready for wear. Sewing boxing trunks yourself is an easy and fun way to establish your identity and add a little variety to your boxing matches.

Winning Boxing Matches

If you are training for winning boxing matches, you must learn to train your entire body and mind. Boxers must be quick, agile, and have a deep concentration. When training for a boxing match there are a number of things which will be able to assist you.

winning boxing

It is important to train yourself and keep good concentration when you are boxing. One small second of lost concentration can mean the difference between victory and defeat. Regularly attending training matches and having a sparring partner can assist you with your concentration training.

Also, it is important to train your entire body. Many people think that only the upper torso is used during boxing, however, this is very far from the truth. Although the fist fighting techniques are the most concentrated on part of boxing training, footwork training is equally important.

You can begin your footwork training by exercising your legs and keeping them in shape. Running, climbing stairs, jump roping, and cycling are all ways of keeping your legs in shape. Also, taking dance classes, such as ballet, will increase your balance. Ultimately your balance, shift of weight, and quick ability to get out of your opponents way will be a great benefit to winning boxing.

If you are training for winning boxing, it is very important to avoid things which can damage your system. Lay off of the fast food and the quick meals. Keep track of your diet and eat healthy. Also, avoid alcohol and tobacco. These things will hinder your performance and will decrease your chances of winning.

When you are training your punching techniques, use numerous sources for training. A combination of partner sparring, punching bags, jab bags, and punching dummies will help you with your speed, your force, and your combination skills.

It is important to remember that you cannot train alone. A training partner or a coach will be necessary in your efforts for boxing training. A professional trainer is best. The reason for this is that you must learn the proper techniques. If you begin by learning a bad form, then you will not be able to win against a well trained opponent.

Also, using punching bags is great for training combination and practicing punches, however, it does not allow for human response. If you do not have somebody to assist you in your training, then you will not learn how to be on the defense and how to take a hit. Do not train alone when training for winning boxing matches.

Learning Boxing Combinations

There are many reasons for learning boxing combinations. Speed, tactical advantage, and technique are a few of those reasons. It is important to know that boxing is not simply stepping around your opponent and throwing punches. There is style, grace, and logic involved, as well as a lot of physics.

boxing combinations

When you throw a punch, your punch is going to be as hard as the effort you put into it. Basic physics tells us that force is equal to speed and mass. In other words, if you have a strong arm and a quick punch, then you will be able to throw a good punch.

Learning boxing combinations helps you learn this type of force. One punch is a good beginning, it hits your opponent and throws him off guard for a split second. However, a combination of punches delivers force in a continuous movement of punches which will keep your opponent from attacking if done correctly. However, any slip up in the timing and force of the punch can quickly change the odds of the sport.

Learning boxing combinations will assist you in keeping your opponent at bay while allowing you the upper hand. A quick jab, jab, jab, uppercut can be much more effective than one right hook.  Also, learning a combination of punches prepares you for speed and balance while you are in a match. Keeping your balance is the most important part of combination punches because you must be able to shift your weight from your left arm to your right arm without losing your balance.

Also, when learning combination punches. Learn where the punches should be thrown. You need to know if you should punch in the ribs or the face and what combination of punches to make. By knowing the blocking techniques used in boxing, you will greatly increase your chances of making the correct punch combination.

Also, when learning boxing combinations, study them intensely. Keep trying out more combinations and dedicate entire training session to combinations in order to better work with combination punches.

Learning to block combination punches is also important. If you have a combination punch thrown at you, it is very important to be able to get out of that situation and regain the upper hand. Taking a punch is just as important as avoiding a punch in boxing. You must be able to take a punch in order to learn how to best defend yourself if your opponent is using combination punches. Learning combination punches in many different forms will benefit your boxing career.

Deodorizing Workout Gloves

Often times, you will need to know how to go about deodorizing workout gloves if you happen to be a boxer. Workout gloves get all kinds of nasty things. They get the blood and sweat from your opponents brown. They get your own sweaty hands inside them as you punch away in training. They also get dirty just by being what they are.

workout gloves

Although cleaning your workout gloves is a bit of a misleading term, there are ways of sanitizing and airing out your gloves to keep the bacteria at bay and allow your gloves to be fresh smelling once again.

One thing to so is take a clean sock and put some baking soda in it. Fill the sock with enough baking soda to put inside your glove comfortably. The baking soda will work and absorb all of the odors inside your glove, giving it that clean fresh smell once again.

If you have a small pet, you might also have small pet cedar chip bedding. Placing a hand full of cedar chips into a sock and inserting it into your boxing workout gloves will also allow you to keep your gloves smelling nice and clean.

Never put your gloves in the washing machine or the dryer. The washing machine will ruin the outside leather covering of your gloves and the dryer will get your inside cotton lining all bunched up and useless. Neither of these machines should ever be used on boxing gloves.

You can use a spray disinfectant on the inside and outside of your gloves, In fact, they even make a special spray for boxing gloves, although any spray sanitizer will do the trick. Simply  open the wrist hole of your glove with your fingers and then spray inside the glove. This will kill any lingering bacteria and disinfect the smell.

If you want to clean the outside of your boxing workout gloves, which you definitely should, then use a slightly wet cloth with a little bit of soap and gently wipe them off. Get all around the outside of the gloves, but do not allow your gloves to get too damp. Once this is done, allow your gloves to air dry and then spray the outside of them with the disinfectant spray in order to keep all the germs away.

Your boxing workout gloves should last you a very long time with the proper care and usage. However, remember to continue deodorizing workout gloves on a regular basis.
